CHARACTERISTICS AND TOPICS OF THE ROMANTICISM

CHARACTERISTICS:

Overvaluation of me: Tired of the subordination to the neoclassic regulation, the romantic man needs to express his own feelings and emotions, for what his works fill of subjectivism and emotionality.

Irracionally: There is rejected the illustrated rationalism of the previous century and there are valued aspects that are irrational, as the passions, the emotions, the fantasy, the dreams... If for the neoclassic individual the truth was equal to the beauty, for the romantic one only the beauty is equal to the truth.

Rebelliousness: The romantic ones break with the neoclassic molds and claim the creative freedom of the author:

· Mix the prose with the verse

· Use a versification very changed in poetry

· do not respect three classic units

· Combine the comical thing with the dramatic thing

· Replace the didactism with the imagination and the sensibility

Nationalism: In opposition to the cultural uniformity defended by the illustrated rationalism, the romantic ones they estimate and exalt the national values, the popular traditions and the folklore of every country, recover his past and idealize it. In Spain, the nationalism contributes to the recovery of the Galician and the Catalan in literature.
